During the school year, you might find Dickens lying on his comforter at the Prairie West Library in Sioux Falls while a child reads to him. Or he might be at Sanford Children's Hospital calming the nerves of a child undergoing radiation treatment for cancer. Once a week, he visits the VA. And he makes regular visits to nursing homes where he interacts with seniors.

This isn't play, it's work. But the two-year-old Golden Retriever absolutely loves his job as a therapy dog. And his owner, Carol Everetts loves being a pet therapy volunteer. "Anytime he is wearing his therapy dog vest, he knows he's working and knows how to behave. Dickens laps up the attention and enjoys being petted. He also puts up with being stroked from back to front. It's just part of doing his job."
